Keeping Track

Updated: Sep 10, 2019

How many people do you know who track their workouts? The answer is NOT ENOUGH!! With over 8 years of experience in the gym I know that only around 10% of gym goers track their workouts. It’s these gym goers who are the ones making progress on a consistent basis and now you can join them!

So why bother tracking workouts?

  • Safety first, some people may be pushing themselves too hard as they can’t quite remember what weight it was they lifted, increasing the likelihood of injuries, and increasing the chance of too much fatigue on the central nervous system.

  • It will allow you to train harder every single workout. If you see you hit 8 reps last time, then this time you aim for 9 or 10. This way you’ll be making the progress you’re after, therefore Winning!

  • By tracking every workout, you will always see your progress whether it’s an increase in weight or more reps. This is very rewarding and seeing yourself progress will result in greater self confidence in the gym leading to more gains.

How to track your workouts

Tracking your workouts is easy. Here’s how to do it:

  • The old school way - Get a pen and paper and start writing down your workouts. Start with the exercises performed and the weight lifted. Include the number of reps and sets.

  • The modern way - Use your smartphone and track your workouts in your notes or use an app (I highly recommend and use JEFIT & what’s more it’s free!). Record the same information as in previous point.

Tracking your workouts is one of the most important things you can do. You will stay accountable, motivated, and rewarded, all at the same time. Every workout we do, every program we write is based on this approach. I can’t stress how important this is! Start tracking and I promise you won’t be disappointed with the results.
